Baby Michelle came running down the basement steps to me in the total dark in my mom & dad’s house in pure trust that adult Michelle was standing at the bottom of the stairs & wouldn’t let her get hurt.
I hadn’t expected her to come down before I had the chance to turn on the light down there, much less so fast, in the total darkness with no sure-footing whatsoever, sliding & tripping all the way down … & when she crashed into me as I managed to catch her (only by the sound of her approach), I felt/We felt – a beautiful shock of pure joy in our heart(s) that she trusted me & that I caught her whilst both in the complete dark.
And I awoke with these words:
