The Path Is Not Who You Are

The Path Is Not Who You Are
Finding your centre does not mean you will never lose it again. It means you are learning to trust your ability to return, even when life has kicked your nervous system into a thorny hedge with a bad attitude.
You are not here to outrun what challenges you. You are here to stand so steadily within yourself that a new world can begin to root itself through you.
And Then It Is Going to Crash
That sounds beautiful, and it is. Transcendence. Rising above. New realities anchoring in. As spectacular as that is, remember this: you will find your centre, you will have your moment of peace, and you are going to feel transcendent, stable and perhaps even quietly delighted that you have finally done it.
And then, at some point, it is going to crash.
I am not saying that because I intend for you to struggle or because every beautiful moment must inevitably be followed by a cosmic slap. I am saying it because this is the way we learn, overcome, rise and evolve.
We centre. We stabilise. We get thrown off. We find our way back again.
You must be willing to meet yourself in the crash and the fall, and you must be willing to try again, over and over. You have to have the kind of stubborn relentlessness a toddler has when you try to take their crayons away from them.
The ability to find your centre is not something you master once, then put in a frame on your wall alongside all your other impressive achievements. It is something you practise every time life pulls you away from yourself.
Again. And again. And again.
The Path Can Be Difficult Without You Being Wrong
Life is not always going to roll out a velvet carpet for you to arrive on. Your path may be laden with jagged rocks that cut your feet, or it may be strewn with lilies and soft grass that cushion every step. Most likely, it will contain a peculiar assortment of both, occasionally on the same Tuesday.
What your feet find on the path is not who you are. It is where you are.
There is a difference.
The path does not define you. It is simply where your feet have landed. You were never meant to turn the terrain beneath you into an identity, or use it as evidence of what you are worth.
We land in an emotion that feels confrontational, painful or deeply inconvenient, and we back away from it, wondering why everything cannot simply be rosy now that we have done all this healing.
Because this is real life.
It is not the fairy tale, and yet, if you allow it to be, it becomes something far better and far more real. There is a true sense of gratification in discovering that you are not defined by where your feet happen to land. You are the person navigating the path beneath them.
Do not use your surroundings as a measure of what kind of person you are.
That is what your determination is for.
Anyone can believe they are centred when nothing has disturbed them. Anyone can feel peaceful when life is behaving itself, when the path is visible and nobody has unexpectedly drop kicked their nervous system into oblivion.
You discover your centre when something pulls you away from it and you make your way back to it through choice and determination, courage and conviction.
Life Begins to Meet You
Right there, where the road makes a sharp bend and tests your resolve, that is where you find yourself. Where the fog obscures the path ahead and you keep walking anyway, that is where you find yourself too.
That is where life meets you and begins to cushion your steps.
It does not happen because you demanded that the road be made easy. It happens because you became easier with each step, trusting that this was where you were meant to be and knowing that all you had to do was keep moving.
You stop fighting the existence of the rocks. You stop treating every difficult feeling as evidence that you have lost your way. You stop assuming that a hard stretch of road must mean you are failing, falling behind or being punished for some spiritual misdemeanour you cannot remember committing.
You begin to understand that the path can be difficult without you being wrong.
Then, sometimes when you least expect it, life rises up to meet you and carry you.
You look back and realise the uphill trudge was hard, but it did not defeat you. It was not your end, it was your beginning. Instead of pulling away from life, you began leaning into it. The road did not need to become perfect before you could trust yourself upon it.
You simply needed to keep coming back. Keep walking. Step by step by step.
So come back to your breath. Come back to your body. To your truth. To the powerful presence beneath all the noise telling you that you should already be somewhere else.
Every time you return to yourself, you create a ripple of coherence, first within your own life and then through the entire field. You become less frightened of being thrown off because you know you can find your way back, and that is a freedom no perfectly smooth path could ever give you.
Peace is closer than you think. You do not have to chase your way back to yourself.
You were always the answer you were seeking.
