Three Spiritual Lies That Sound Enlightened

Which one singes your eyebrows?
We have mixed up some fairly important things on this planet.
We call passivity peace, complete nervous-system collapse surrender, and making ourselves microscopic humility. Then we wonder why awakening feels so confusing when half the time we are living in opposites and giving them spiritual names.
So, here are three reminders that may sting before they set you free.
1. Peace and passivity are not the same thing
Peace is presence. It is the ability to remain anchored in truth even when that truth shakes the room, disappoints somebody or requires you to say the thing everyone else is determined to avoid.
Passivity stays quiet to keep the illusion intact.
You can smile serenely, speak in a whisper and own enough crystals to place several small countries under energetic protection, but if you are abandoning yourself to prevent discomfort, that is not peace.
Peace does not require you to disappear. It allows you to stand fully in your own field without needing to attack, control or convince anyone else, and this is also where true boundaries live.
A boundary is not a demand that another person behave differently. It is the line of self-honour you choose to live, whether or not they understand it, approve of it or compose a lengthy speech explaining why your boundary is terribly inconvenient for them.
Peace can be soft.
It can also say no.
2. Surrender and shutting down are not the same thing
If you have pushed yourself until you are numb, depleted and one minor inconvenience away from crying into a croissant, you have not surrendered.
You are exhausted.
Surrender is conscious. It remains present with what is moving, breathes through what feels too large, and allows life to carry away what has completed.
Shutting down buries the feeling while your body quietly waves a tiny white flag and wonders whether anyone might eventually notice that it has been keeping the entire operation running on two crumbs, half a prayer and a nervous twitch.
This is why rest matters so deeply. Rest is a conscious return to yourself, while exhaustion is what happens when you repeatedly leave yourself behind and call it strength.
One restores your presence.
The other reveals how long you have been living without it.
Surrender does not mean that you stop feeling, caring or participating in your life. It means you stop using force to keep alive what is already trying to end.
3. Humility and smallness are not the same thing
This one singed my eyebrows clean off.
In my twenties, I believed humility was a polite way of announcing my unworthiness. I thought being humble meant downplaying my gifts, doubting my knowing and making absolutely certain that nobody could accuse me of recognising my own light.
Boy, did I have that wrong.
Humility is knowing exactly what you carry while understanding that it does not make you more important than anyone else. Smallness is pretending you carry nothing because being fully seen still feels unsafe.
Humility stands tall without demanding applause. Smallness crouches beneath the table and hopes nobody notices the light escaping from underneath it.
You were never asked to hide your brilliance.
You were asked to embody it with grace.
The spiritual label is not the truth
These distinctions can appear obvious when they are arranged neatly on a page. They become considerably more interesting when life places you directly inside them and your nervous system, old conditioning and beautifully convincing ego all begin offering alternative interpretations.
That is when passivity starts calling itself peace, depletion turns up wearing surrender’s name badge, and fear slips into humility’s cardigan before insisting that shrinking is terribly spiritual.
This is why awakening requires more than learning the right language. You can know every spiritual term, quote every enlightened teacher and explain non-attachment over a cup of herbal tea, yet still use those ideas to avoid your pain, silence your truth or remain loyal to an identity that is quietly draining the life out of you.
The spiritual label you place on something does not change what it is.
Your body knows the difference.
Peace leaves you present. Surrender leaves you open. Humility leaves you able to recognise your light without using it to place yourself above or beneath anybody else.
The question is whether you are willing to feel beneath the lovely spiritual words and tell yourself the truth about what is actually happening.
That truth may sting.
Let it.
Sometimes the sting is simply the sensation of an illusion losing its grip.
Which one singed your eyebrows?
No spiritual polishing required. We take our truth like our coffee: strong, unfiltered and occasionally responsible for a sudden awakening.
From my heart, all the way to yours,
so much love…
I hope you feel it.
